( this is why i wanted to know who he teaches, and since kouji is his kid, komaeda's going to call him over to his desk so that they can talk. with his prosthetic, he taps the surface gently as the other kids leave. on his desk happens to be various folded papers, students with passing grades, or failing, and then his camera set on the corner of the desk. there's a bowl filled with knives that he got from the dormitory, but it's whatever, there's something else important. )

Do you know why I called you over?

[ By experience, it is never a good thing to be called to the teacher's desk, held back after class, and what was the last time this happened? ...A worse thing is to pretend he didn't hear, though, so he turns away from the door to stop by Komaeda's desk and hopefully Komaeda is sitting down so Kouji can stand on the other side of the desk with some distance between them. ]

Chiaki and them are like the transfers back at the start of the school year right, they can't leave the school proper... Natsume's going to bring the blanket Nene made him and go find her. They need a talk and he... is going to give her something warm, yeah. Clamor's taught him some simple enchantments on his request, and also went off about the wonders of magitech—

not important. Important is finding Chiaki. Where's Kudo-chan. )

[ Looks at the calendar... He would do this in the middle of finals week, wouldn't he. But he goes poking his head around the school and it doesn't take very long to find her sprawled out in the middle of the auditorium, lying on her stomach with her feet kicking idly in the air, writing on some papers in front of her.

Alright. Exams finished with, she's going to pack up her things and sling her bag over her shoulder and stomp over to the room next door so she can do what she hates people doing to her, which is march up to Natsume's desk before he can leave and pin him with a death glare. ]

12/7 — drop dead spot

[ The next time he checks the spot, the cocoa is gone and the bag of marshmallows is open but most of the marshmallows are still inside. There is a singular roasted chestnut left in return. ]

12/9, hiro

[there was a name in the letter that he couldn't assign a face to. until he's going over a class roster one day, and he's able to put two and two together.

he returns a pop quiz to Hiro's desk with a note on top: See me after class! ... wait no that makes it sound like he's in trouble, doesn't it. he must add something to show that this is meant to be a friendly thing.

He doesn't so much see Sportacus after class as he does simply remain in the classroom with his head down at his desk zzzzing as he waits for everybody else to leave and Sportacus to find him, no thought about going down to the faculty office ever crossing his mind. ]

so anyway mizuki's no help at all, which is expected, but when amami learns akari's name he might come ask her about the boundary instead. she seems more helpful, if what meng yao had said before is anything to go off of... initially, he'll just ask her about the ability/conditions to get outside the building and off school grounds generally, but he can get more specific and indicate that kazuki-san told him to check with them if that seems like it'll help.

"mizuki's no help at all" please he just wants to eat pretzels and watch the students run around like sims

anyways, the nurse will confirm that the counselor is the person who set the boundaries up in the first place. limitations are placed on students who have just woken up in order to keep them "safe" from the gardener (the assumption is that they would run into the courtyard and bleed everywhere or invite the gardener inside the school and get everybody eaten; this is what i wanted to happen) but that is less necessary now that the gardener has been resealed. The boundary along the tree line is the same: it's to keep them in, and to keep something out

early dec — mizuki

( what's the new appointment process... can amami book one on his last murder to skip the line... anyway, when he does manage to get one, you'll find him leaning against the frame of mizuki's door, knocking on it because, hey, it's supposed to be his turn now. let him in. )

12/09 — ranger, body

[commences]

For a running gag, I can't say I'm displeased.

( he comments, walking into the common room as he brings ranger along, explaining what he's found almost in the same fashion as ranger finding someone in his coffin. the only difference was that body made a fuss, but the one inside of one of the new coffins isn't making any movements. he walks over to the tube with a see-through panel, showing the body that's sleeping inside peacefully. it's like watching someone dream in a glass coffin, but it's a mechanical tube which keeps them in constant stasis and komaeda just hasn't popped the seal yet to properly show them to ranger. there's a button panel on the side which contributes to opening the door, and he reaches out with his fingers to hover over the numbers and letters. )

They had to arrive this way, because there's no way to get inside unless you have the code.

( which makes that suspicious already, but he doesn't recall anyone dressed like this from his previous exposure to the coffins, and komaeda knows them well enough. )

[rearranger]

[  It reminds him a little of the story of Snow White if her story were transformed into a post-apocalyptic sci-fi. The device itself seems to be of bigger interest to him (and he's likely already decided to poke and prod and extract as much as possible to the end,) but his immediate interest is squarely on the person within it. Between this, the cremation coffin, and the eyesore paintings, Rio almost thinks that the entire thing is just a big joke.

Well... They played pranks too, so it's not that surprising. Especially not when the faint smell of a dying fire wafts from the opposite tube. ]

Hmm... Well, you would've felt left out if only I got someone, right?

[ He turns his head to the left and right, inspecting the device with an interest that's only so very rarely seen from him. His was impossible to open without the remote, too, and so he's inclined to agree. Except...  ]

Doesn't look like they go here.

[ He lifts his head to look back to Komaeda's, switching from the open mouthed grin card to a cheerful cat one. ]

12/3 — narumi

[commences]

Ito-kun! There you are, there you are!

( he got your message, which wasn't actually his message, but what this means is that komaeda's here to see him — he makes sure to stare at him a bit, going though his memory to figure out if he's a familiar presence aside from what they've done so far. he's accosted him in his classroom at lunch time, the same method he normally does when dealing with rokkun, but he doesn't have back up to stop narumi if he decides to leave. perhaps he's better than rokkun and won't, who knows. )

Do you want to eat together? I hear you have very exquisite tastes.

( like soap and potatoes, but that's no different from how komaeda cooks, so he thinks he might have a chance here. )

Um.

[ There's a slight eyebrow furrow at "exquisite tastes" but even though Komaeda doesn't look like he's made of money, middle class is still higher in comparison. ]

I don't mind eating together, but before you get too excited, I only have onigiri for lunch.

12/21, keigo

[okay so,

subaru's just dropping by to show them that he's alive since he knows the practicum can be heard all around the school and absolutely did this yesterday after natsume at least healed his shoulder enough that it wasn't, you know, in need of a bandage anymore, but it still sore as all hell and he cannot use it too much but does anyway so no one thinks twice... looks off.

he still feels bad for not saying hello first after the exchange okay keigo gets a (mmmmmmmmmmmm) hug and they can go back to business if they want, this is his due diligence as a friend at the very least.

... subaru would love to stay and chat, maybe that's why he'll linger a bit, but he can't focus on conversation or look keigo in the eye so he's more inclined to leave as reluctant as it is]

[ There's that rising urge to sock Subaru in the shoulder every time another scream or shout of pain rings down the hall from where they huddle themselves behind the counter, but all of that melts away when Subaru is there and alive and hugging them— not as tightly as he used to, but he's probably exhausted, and they can make up for it in his stead. A quick squeeze, a softer hug that they don't want to let go.

12/24, keigo also

[the early break after practicum should be a breath of fresh air, especially for someone who's only objective was to "survive" compared to many of the others who had to fight for their very lives, but--

snakes can tell snakes and all, so the light switch smiles are easy to see in days prior and even now as subaru's brought keigo to the study hall later in the night once everyone's cleared out and yes it's touching on bedtime, but a kiss oughta fix any sleepiness as he sits them down in front of a... blanket-covered... bumpy pile of stuff?

... okay, the smile he gives the other's little more genuine than it's been lately, soft and quietly warm the way a nightlight in the corner of a room is.]

Can you guess what all of this is, Keigo?

[ The light switch smiles are harder when it's night, when they're sleepy and scared and can't focus quite as acutely on the people in front of them and what they need them to see, but that need is less, here, in a cozy room surrounded by books and a guessing game.

A blanket covered surprise.

They stare at the pile for a moment to make sure it doesn't move, like every child's fantasy of finding a dog with a bow tied around its neck under the tree on Christmas day, but it's wariness that gets soothed when nothing happens, rather than excitement. If not one of Subaru's mean surprises, then...

[ Ranger is a doll and therefore has no need for medical care, or anything of that nature, and as such he does not visit the nurse's office.

Yet, here he is, sticking his head in and looking around to see if the room is empty. When he doesn't immediately find it to be occupied by the sight or noise of some poor student, he'll enter. ]

[ Telling him to leave would be an objectively correct choice. ]

[ the nurse answers in a sing-song voice, as if in response to the start of a knock-knock joke, expectant smile on her face as she turns in the swivel chair at her desk and gestures for Ranger to come inside. ]

12/25 — npcs

merikuri

[sisters]

merry christmas! before winter break starts, amami will be delivering gifts to akki and kazuki, but chiaki and kamo-kun have to wait for the day of for theirs.

kamo-kun - will be greeted by two gifts. the first is a (kind of clumsily made if we're honest) small plush octopus, obviously handmade if the couple of sewing mistakes on it are anything to go by, but hey. it came out well enough, even topped with a little crown. the second is a small assortment of handmade accessories — these done a little better, if only because tying knots is something amami's more familiar with, and it's difficult to mess up beads. there is one beaded shell necklace, one sea glass bracelet, and a small handful worth of simple beaded and tied bracelets

chiaki kudo - chiaki's given a small shoulder bag, with cat paw x-acto knives in the transparent pocket in the front, and the water bottle tucked inside the main pocket alongside some high quality shampoos, conditioners, and other hair and beauty products.

akira fujioka - it's a hand-warming bag, so he can see his game while he plays without his hands getting cold.

"kazuki" - a warm scarf, delivered some time around the 20th because he's worried kazuki'll get cold.

12/23 — npckun

[commences]

( when was the last time i had a thread with npckun, i have to rectify this so, i don't know where they are today, but komaeda's going to stand right in front of them with open arms.

he's like a trained dog with this. )

[ Doesn't matter where they are, the moment they see Komaeda with his arms open they're running for him with their arms open, gonna crush his ribs today ]

12/17, Counselor

[ Well, following the discussion he's had with the gardener last month, Meng Yao knows he should be working on seeing what information can be gleaned from a certain someone—if anything could be, anyway.

Anyway, it appears that the counselor at this time has those "walk-ins". It would be prudent of him to take advantage of them, or attempt to do so, and so here he is in front of that door, giving the door a light but polite knock against it. ]

May I trouble you for a private discussion?

[ If he is in there, anyway. ]

[adsum]

If that's what you want. Come in.

[ The voice calls out to him from the other side of the door, a soft click of a lock unlatching audible and the door will open if Meng Yao tries it now. The counselor is seated on top of his desk, with several chairs of miscellaneous types in a semi-circle in front of him, and next to him is a bowl of cheese crisps. ]

Would you like one?

12/10 - box time, part two

( anyway, it's taken some time, but the keys have been rounded up — one, two, three people have been given a time and day that works for each of them, asked to come visit amami in room sun two on friday afternoon. kamo-kun is set up at the student store, so it's just amami sitting with his back leaning up against he edge of the bed in their little forest of a room, door open just a crack and kazuki's box set to his side, just out of sight of the open door if someone were to peek in.

at the same time, if they do, he'll offer a little wave and a smile in greeting. patting the ground next to him because... there's only one chair. maybe they should look into getting some cushions. )

[decrypter]

[guess who's showing up ready and with a gentle knock on the door, slipping in and restoring the condition of the door? Helena smiles when she hears the patting, making her way to come sit near him.]

It always smells so fresh in here.

[it's the plants, they keep the air nice. she doesn't need to tell him that she's excited for this - it's been a mystery since she awoke from that false life.]

12/17 - kamokun

( so, anyway, kaede's finally picked out a dorm room for herself — which is great! because it means she's actually right next to the room he and kamo-kun have.

he's probably explained as much to her already; that they're the kid who runs the student store, and that they're like the baby sibling he's always dreamt of, just ignore the slightly bittersweet look in his eyes as he says something along those lines. what matters here and now is that he's made no secret of how proud he is of them, and he's made no secret to them either of how much seeing his classmate from before has brightened his week. hence why, when amami shows up to pick up kamo-kun from the store at closing time (they don't like the dark, he explains to kaede, as if they're five and not like, fifteen), he's got said classmate with him. stepping inside, he'll gesture for kaede to follow him into the store, making his way over to their counter. )

Kamo-kun, you ready to go? I have someone I want to introduce you to.

[kaede had heard more than enough about a lot of people amami knew, and honestly -- she's happy he's made so many friends here, people he can trust and not speak as cryptically towards. even if their exit of the academy wasn't... the best, and she's worried about those who've been left behind... there's nothing that can be done now save face forward, and he seems to be doing just that. this kamo-kun is no exception, though it begs some questions she will be delving into far later.

while amami goes to the counter to fetch them, kaede stays politely by the door, looking around at all the wares. it can't have been the first time she stepped in here, surely she'd needed something at some point before she'd "woken", but it's new to the present her anyway. oh, those pencils are cute... and she does need a nicer notebook... the keychains, she can do without, personally. but she'll stick to waving a little at kamo-kun rather than buying anything at the moment.]

Hi there! You really are just as cute as Amami-kun claimed you were.

[adorable... and shorter than her. not by much, but still...]

12/25, kazuki, keigo

[for Kazuki, on the evening of the 25th, Helena will make the long trek back to the courtyard and leave a wrapped small loaf of gingerbread in a safe place, as well as two snow bunnies with lopsided faces - one big, one small. the bread is not very sweet, but is still decent, more about spice than not.

for Keigo, there is what appears to be a plain wooden box with a small note from Helena.

open me!

feeling the box will yield the joins and ability that some parts can be moved around, and reveal that it's actually a puzzle box that'll require some work to solve for the first time. inside, something rattles encouragingly when it's shaken.

let me know when they solve it, Ori.]

subaru has gifts. he won't be putting them in their lockers or anything he'll just be running around before exams trying to catch everyone. which means he won't stay for conversation don't worry about it.

- a small purple coin pouch with a music score sewn on it. they correlate with a part of deemo's sunset
- a moderately long scarf; unlike the others it isn't knit, and features small notes sewn in at the ends. they don't correlate with anything
- a small milk bottle from the vending machine filled with origami stars and a note. it reads: "Thanks for everything so far this year!!! I know you'll find all of this pointless, but I wanted to show my appreciation anyway. Love you Macchi, have a good break!"

hiro
- a small blue coin pouch with a cat's paw on it
- a well-done drawing of a playful shiba inu, the words "let's draw together!" beneath it
- a small bag of star candy, one of which is wasabi flavored and the others a mix of orange, lemon, and strawberry

chiaki
- a dark blue coin pouch with an extensively detailed lanturn on it. you know, the pokemon

rokuro
- my man got subarus gifts what more do you want. his actual gift is a glittering bracelet, with the glitter being tightly sealed so it won't get everywhere.

kouji
- an inconveniently long scarf, which actually has to be given to him before exams begin because i don't know if he'll survive exams otherwise i'm sorry kouji you're my man i love you

and on the 25th proper, subaru'll brave the snow so he can do something for haruka--

she'll be getting some colorful papercraft camellia flowers for her shrine!! they're for new years, too, with little fortune slips to show her good fortune. though he'll be around to keep her company over break anyway... also these scarves can be any color you want barring the obvious restriction]

whenever we're back from break and he catches a look at chiaki's coin pouch he'll see that she's sewed extra teeth into lanturn's mouth, now it's perfect

ALSO LOOK rokuro would've given... some of the gifts... back. he keeps the geode and money and whatever was inside the piggy bank box, but returns the piggy bank itself and camera (he includes a polaroid picture of himself he'd taken with it of him going (: and "Happy holidays!" written neatly on the back), and portable universe. it's his santa tax

( guess what? it's santa nene! through out the day she'll be dropping things off- or, if they're not around, she'll deliver them after winter break. )

hikaru receives peach jam cookies, a too-long scarf made with care, and a these guys!

narumi gets a soft plush blanket, and many baked goods since he seemed to like those so much.

chiaki gets this guy! but not the lady. that'd be weird. she also gets a big warm blanket and some cookies! admittedly, this is not the first blanket she's given chiaki, given that the school heating sucks.

keigo gets, for all their help- even if so, so much of it was at the cost of her highly saved merit points and whatever else she could offer- gets a new friend, a soft cream-colored blanket and like, their favorite meals for a week.

haruka gets an offering of soft fudge and hot chocolate left waiting at her shrine long past the time it goes ice cold, to leave an impression and a ghost of the drink itself for her, and nene may or may not spend an hour or two there just playing soft, cute music for her while she rests. being santa's hard work!

kazuki gets a warm hug, and some seeds from her strawberry plant. maybe... maybe he can make them grow somewhere in his forest, and get to experience them before time is up.

kouji and seiya may not have any relationship with nene, but she still has given them some warm blankets as well. ... like... don't freeze here, please?

lily may and bev get cat toys stuffed with mint, and home-made cat treats.
